CITIC Securities, one of China's leading brokerage firms, reported rising net profits last month.

Net profits for the company increased by 16.13 percent year on year to 860 million yuan (123 million U.S. dollars) last month, according to a statement the company filed with the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

Operating revenue stood at 1.904 billion yuan in January, down 10.94 percent from a year ago, the statement showed.

CITIC Securities shares gained 1.91 percent to close at 22.98 yuan per share on the Shanghai Stock Exchange Friday.
